Members of the Conasauga Safe Streets Task Force have identified, arrested and charged three individuals in connection with the murder of 16 year old Andre Johnson of Dalton. The murder occurred at approximately 6:40 p.m. on May 28th, 2007 at the Mini Super convenient store on 4th Avenue in Dalton following an altercation between the victim and offender. Other persons with the victim and offender were present during the altercation.
The arrests came just 24 hours following the incident and the investigation involved more than 200 man hours not including the time spent on the investigation by the patrol and support services division.
The three individuals charged include:
Chavarria and Sanchez were both charged with Murder (party to the crime) and violation of the Georgia Street Gangs Act. Hernandez was charged with Murder and violation of the Georgia Street Gangs Act. Hernandez has been identified as the person responsible for the shooting death of the victim, Andre Johnson. The investigation is continuing and specific details of the incident are not being released at this time.

The Dalton Police Department participated in a Community Safety Event hosted by Safe Kids Dalton and the Dalton Chapter of the American Red Cross. First Responders of the Dalton Police Department, Dalton Fire Department, Whitfield County Sheriff's Office, Whitfield County Fire Department, and Georgia State Patrol were present to provide literature to the community on community safety topics.
Lieutenant Gary Stevens of the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office conducted DUI education through the use of fatal vision goggles and a golf cart. With this the participant uses goggles to simulate an illegal intoxication level while negotiating road obstacles with the golf cart.
Also provided was a car seat check. This is very important since these checks have revealed that the majority of car seats are improperly installed in the owners vehicle. Seats are checked for proper installation and the parent is given instruction on the proper way to install their car safety seat.
Safe Kids Dalton and The University of Georgia Injury Prevention Institute provided a roll over simulator at the event giving a clear demonstration of the danger to a unsecured motorist involved in a motor vehicle crash when the vehicle rolls over. In a motor vehicle roll over crash, a motorist that is not properly retrained can be ejected from the vehicle. The chances of being seriously injured or killed increases if you are ejected from your vehicle. The message is clear; wear your seat beat at all times.

Dalton Police Investigator Matthew Locke has obtained warrants for the arrest of Charles Antwan Robinson, 30 years of age, of Chattanooga Tennessee. Robinson is believed to be responsible for several stolen cars in Dalton, and robberies in Dalton and Ringgold, Georgia as well as several robberies in the Chattanooga and Red Bank Tennessee area. He has been arrested and charged by Tennessee authorities and is currently in custody in the Hamilton County Jail. The investigation is continuing to identify the other two suspects in the Dalton robbery case.
The armed robbery occurred at the Favorite Market at 2000 Chattanooga Road in Dalton at approximately 5:07 a.m. on March 4th, 2007. Surveillance cameras recorded the robbery and suspects in the crime. Robinson is seen in the surveillance footage wearing a fur coat. Robinson and another suspect entered the store, produced a weapon, threatened the employee and robbed the store of an undisclosed amount of cash. They then fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle.

Eighteen Dalton residents recently graduated from the 15th annual Dalton Police Department's Citizen Police Academy. The graduation ceremony was held at the North West Georgia Trade and Convention Center. The graduation recognized the graduates for completing 10 weeks (30 hours) of instruction into the inner working of the police department.
The ceremony brought all graduates and their guests together for dinner and the receiving of a diploma showing the department's appreciation for their time and input in the class.

Police still attempting to identify a suspect wanted in connection with using a stolen credit card at several businesses in the Dalton area. The suspect is described as a heavy set white male, middle age with gray hair, a goatee facial hair. The suspect is believed to be driving a Silver Dodge Dakota.
The victim lost her card at the Wal-Mart gas station in Ft. Oglethorpe on January 17th, 2007. She was notified by her bank that the credit card had been used at several businesses. An investigation has produced video surveillance footage of the suspect. It is believed that the suspect lives in the Ft. Oglethorpe area.

Investigators of the Dalton Police Department are looking for an individual that is using a credit card that was stolen from the hospital. The individual is described as a Black/Male, tall and stocky, approximately 30-35 years old. The suspect has used the stolen card at numerous locations.

A motor vehicle crash yesterday is responsible for shutting down portions of Glenwood Avenue from the Gordon Street bridge to MLK Jr. Blvd. The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. and when the brakes of a pick-up truck failed and the driver left the roadway striking a gas main just north of Williams chiropractic center. The driver was not seriously injured.
Due to the dangers of the gas leak, units with the Dalton Fire Department, Dalton Police Department, EMS, and Dalton Utilities were called to the scene. The fire department set up an incident command post just south of the crash to manage the scene. Police personnel worked the accident and assisted the fire department by blocking access into the area. Dalton Utilities personnel were able to shut down the leak allowing the roadway to be re-opened around 5:00 p.m.

Dalton Police Chaplain Donald Treik was among other pastors who met on the courthouse green for a Day of Prayer service. Chaplain Treik led the group in prayer for all public servants asking God to keep public safety personnel safe.
In addition to the prayers, members of the American Legion gave honor to all first responders that have fallen with a 21-gun salute. Members of the Tennessee National Guard presented the flag for ceremony.
