Tuesday night marked Week 4 of the Citizens' Police Academy, with many of the participants sporting their St. Patrick's Day green. Members of the Dalton Police Department's CID Drug Unit kicked off the class with an hour-long discussion of their duties, investigative techniques, as well as a briefing about the different drugs they encounter most frequently during their investigations.
The evening continued with a seminar from Officer Brian Shirley on different steps citizens can take to lessen their chance of becoming victims of crime, with tips on securing their homes, cars, etc.
The class concluded with a look at the department's chaplain program, with Dalton Police chaplains discussing the services they provide for department personnel.

Wow, I think it's awesome what the DPD is doing to educate its citizens about police work. I think sometimes people tend to have the wrong mentality when it comes to law enforcement. If we only knew what a police officer went through on a day to day basis we would learn that they do more than just traffic violations. Police officers are human beings like everyone else. They are sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers. They are uncles, aunts, cousins, and so on. We need them and they need us. May God bless our local law enforcement!
