Crime Reports

The Dalton Police Department is offering a new service to the community in the form of mapped crime reports. The department has contracted with Public Engines, Inc., to provide crime information on a daily basis. Dalton is one of only three cities in the state to provide information at this location. Using the website at www.crimereports.com Dalton residents can view a map depicting recent crime in the city. By clicking on the map of Georgia, one can select Dalton to view specific information.

The site has some level of interactivity in that residents can click the "Crime Types" button to select the crimes they wish to view.

The goal of this service is to continually increase the amount of information available to the public in relation to what is happening in Dalton. The police department believes that a better informed public will be both more prepared to prevent becoming a victim themselves, and better able to partner with police to detect and prevent crimes.

The police department has plans to develop a much more detailed map that will depict crime locations on a neighborhood level once the department updates its records management system. This will, hopefully, occur within the next two years.
